Incredible! I sent the link to the high falootin Washington Post with all their noble company assertions about diversity. But the fact is these young women do not have a choice in Raul's Cuban Plantation. Let's see if they can stomach this.
This is very sad. It's a horrible fate to grow up in Cuba under the system that forces young women to become prostitutes because they have no other alternative. Their choices are: to barely live with a $10.00 a month salary, get a raft and risk dying in the ocean to get to USA or become a jinetera. That's what Castro did for the people. It's a tragedy.

this is sad and shi*ty, indeed and a reflection of the bad opportunities in cuba, BUT there is this type of prostitution in every developing country.. in fact, prostitution has gotten worse in Russia and former soviet union states (e.g., Ukraine), since the fall of communism..
if (when) castro system falls, prostitution will not go away in Cuba , may (and probably) even get worse.. just look at the Costa Rican example.. costa rica has the best economy (and free market) in Central america, yet the worst prostitution problem.. in fact, i would say that prostitution is much more open and prevlanent in san jose, CR than habana.. that is fact.. again, I am not supporting present cuba, just saying that you can't isolate the case.
Sir , when you have no freedom , no liberty, and your earnings are about 1o dollars a month then you have despair . Women see this as their only chance to make it or to help their families. When cuba gets rid of Castro prostitution may increase even but the opportunities for other things besides prostitution will be present. No existent today
and just in case the people have forgotten when castro took over he said he was going to eradicate prostitution that cuba had been the playpen of the americans and he was doing away with all of that so no matters if there is the argument is that he was doing away with it cuba was to become the workers paradise instead it became the workers shit hole.

Yo no entiendo porque ustedes generalizan, ese es un defecto que siempre han tenido, cuando es algo malo es general , como si todas las mujeres cubanas fueran jineteras, que lejos de la realidad estan amigos.

Soy cubana y ante todo te digo que no estoy de acuerdo con lo que planteas de la mujer cubana porque ante todo nosotras tenemos orgullo y sobre todo moral,y no estamos bagabundeando por las calles buscando lo que en ocasiones nos señalas. Quiero decirte que debes sentir bochorno de pensar asi ya que eres cubano y sobre todo eres santiaguero, provincia donde la mujer tiene buena preparacion , educacion y sobre todo buenos modales , ademas es una provincia donde se recogen gran parte de nuestra historia. Si lo que pasa es que no estas bien informado de la historia de tu pais y la verdad

Fantomas la gran mayoria de las mujeres cubanas que yo conozco no practican la prostitucion y tambien ganan menos de 10 dolares al mes, eso es una cuestion de opcion, hay muchas que prefieren morirse de hambre.

Fidel Castro has actually boasted that Cuba's prostitutes are the cleanest and best educated in the world and that they sell themselves because they like sex not because of economic necessity, as other prostitutes do.
This is at once both an advertisement for prostitution in Cuba and the worst indictment of it that anyone could inadvertently make. It is bad enough to have to admit that Cuban women (even prepubescents) sell their bodies in order to feed their children, parents and siblings; but to suggest, as Castro does, that they do so because they enjoy consorting with old, fat perverted men who haven't had sex in decades, because no one in their own countries, not even the local prostitutes, would consider bedding them, is the worst insult that this greatest of all degenerates could aim at his mother, sisters, daughters and all Cuban women.
Far more tragic, I think, is the emasculation of Cuban men who allow their womenfolk to thus degrade themselves because it is foreigners who enjoy all rights in Cuba, not Cubans.
Those who believe when Cuba is free this situation will continue unchecked are in for a rude awakening. In the future if an old Spaniard or Italian so much as looks askance at a Cuban girl he will be have cause to regret that he ever set foot in Cuba. If the Cuban woman herself doesn't cut him to pieces, then surely every Cuban man within sight will.
