In 2006, during the Columbus Day Regatta in Miami, 20 year old Mónica Burguera and friend, 23 year old James Noel Pou lost their lives in a boating accident that also left many others injured. After this fatal accident Mónica’s family along with survivors and close friends returned to the regatta site the following year with a different purpose: to promote safety.
The Burguera family created the Mónica Burguera Foundation, a non-profit organization, in order to educate boaters and help create awareness of the importance of boaters’ safety education. By supporting this cause we can help prevent future accidents and the potential deaths of family members, friends and neighbors.
